About Philippe Boissard

About Philippe Boissard, M.Sc.
I am a researcher and author (M.Sc.) covering hair loss at philippeb.pro and on YouTube as Philippe’s Blueprint. The work is grounded in primary literature, real-world testing, and full disclosure of where I stand on every compound, device, and protocol I cover.
Why I started this
I started losing my hair years before I started writing about it. Like most people, I went through the standard journey: minoxidil, finasteride, the dermatologist’s standard handout, the same advice repeated across every forum and YouTube video. Some of it worked. Some of it did not. None of it explained why in a way that let me make my own decisions when something stopped working or a side effect surfaced.
So I started reading the underlying research. Not the abstracts, not the summaries, not the influencer recap of the abstract – the actual papers. The 1998 Pierard-Franchimont ketoconazole study, Imperato-McGinley’s 5-alpha reductase deficiency cohort, the Heilmann-Heimbach GWAS work on AR gene variants, Garza on bulge stem cells, Mahe on microinflammation. After enough years of that, I had a framework I could use to evaluate any hair loss treatment on its mechanism rather than its marketing.
This site is the framework, written down. The goal is to give the reader the same analytical lens I use, so you can decide for yourself which compounds, devices, and protocols actually deserve a place in your routine.
My approach: how I write about hair loss
- I read primary literature. Every claim on this site that’s pinned to a study is a study I have actually read, not a citation pulled from another article. I use full author names and publication years so you can verify.
- I separate documented from contested. Hair loss research has both. Treating contested findings as proven (or proven findings as contested) is how readers end up on the wrong protocol. I flag the difference explicitly.
- I run the protocols I write about. Where I have personal experience, I document it – including the parts that did not work. The minoxidil article reflects a decision I made on my own scalp. The RU58841 and JXL069 coverage reflects research I have engaged with directly.
- I disclose affiliate relationships clearly. Some of the brands I cover (AnagenInc, INTELLIGENT, Hairguard) provide affiliate links and discount codes. Those are disclosed at the point of recommendation. The relationships do not influence editorial judgment – if a partner’s product underperforms, the article will say so.
- I update when the evidence updates. A 2024 review can change what 2020 evidence said. Articles get revised when warranted, with edit dates noted.
What I am – and what I am not
What I am: a researcher and writer who has spent several years studying the hair loss literature, running my own protocols, documenting outcomes, and translating the science for readers who want to understand the biology behind the decisions they are making.
What I am not: a physician. I do not diagnose, prescribe, or offer medical advice. The information on this site is research-driven analysis intended to help readers ask better questions of their clinicians, not to replace clinical care. Anyone considering starting, stopping, or modifying a hair loss treatment should do so in consultation with a qualified healthcare professional who can evaluate their individual situation.
Several compounds I cover (RU58841, pyrilutamide, JXL069, PP405-class molecules) are research compounds that are not FDA-approved for hair loss. I cover them because they are part of the active research landscape and readers ask about them, not as endorsements of off-label use.
Background and credentials
- Author, Men’s Hairloss Protocol: How I Regained My Hair After Going Bald (Amazon, 2020). The book is the long-form version of the personal hair loss recovery experience that anchors this site.
- Author, Multi-Axis Body: Everything That Works (and Doesn’t) (Amazon, 2025). Applying the same evidence-based framework to physical training and body composition.
- Author, Better, Smarter, Stronger: Become More to Get More (Amazon, 2023).
- YouTube creator at Philippe’s Blueprint – long-form hair loss research videos covering compound mechanisms, real-world results, and protocol design.
- Brand partnerships with AnagenInc (research compounds: RU58841, pyrilutamide, JXL069), INTELLIGENT (ketoconazole shampoo and dermapen tools), and Hairguard (GrowBand 2.0). All disclosed at point of recommendation.
- Documented self-experimentation across multiple compound classes, mechanically-driven approaches (microneedling), and real-world protocol design under non-ideal conditions including extended international travel.
The researchers I draw on most often
If you read this site for any length of time, you will see the same names and papers cited repeatedly. The shortlist:
- Imperato-McGinley et al. – the 1970s 5-alpha reductase deficiency cohort that established DHT as causal in androgenetic alopecia.
- Hamilton (1942) – the original castration-and-androgen study that grounds the entire androgenetic alopecia framework.
- Garza et al. (2011, 2012) – bulge stem cells in bald scalp, and prostaglandin D2 as a hair growth inhibitor.
- Heilmann-Heimbach et al. (2017) – the genome-wide association study identifying AR-gene variants linked to male pattern baldness risk.
- Mahe et al. – “microinflammation” as a participant in androgenetic alopecia progression.
- Pierard-Franchimont et al. (1998) – the foundational ketoconazole-versus-minoxidil study.
- Ibraheim et al. (2023) and the broader 2023 cardiovascular adverse-event literature on minoxidil.
- Irwig, Traish, Kiguradze, Trost, Melcangi – the post-finasteride syndrome literature.
- Abdi et al. (2023) and follow-up meta-analyses – microneedling outcomes in randomized trials.
How to use this site
If you are new here, the most useful entry points are:
- Start with How Hair Loss Actually Works – the foundational pillar piece on the biology.
- Read Why I No Longer Use Minoxidil for an applied example of the framework.
- For neutral, balanced coverage of contested topics, see the Post-Finasteride Syndrome evidence review.
- For long-form video, the YouTube channel covers the same topics with real-time updates as I run protocols.

Credentials and disclosure
Background. Philippe Boissard is the author of three books on Amazon: Men’s Hairloss Protocol (2020), Better, Smarter, Stronger (2023), and Multi-Axis Body (2025). He runs the YouTube channel Philippe’s Blueprint and writes long-form research at philippeb.pro.
Why this work exists. The hair loss space is full of marketing and overconfident claims. The Blueprint exists to apply primary literature, careful interpretation, and honest disclosure to what is and is not known – so men can make better decisions than what marketing copy alone supports.
Not a doctor. Philippe is not a medical doctor. Nothing on this site is medical advice or establishes a doctor-patient relationship. Every article carries this disclosure inline. Always discuss treatments with a qualified clinician before starting, stopping, or changing them. See the full disclaimer.
Affiliate disclosure. Articles include affiliate links to vendors I have evaluated and trust (AnagenInc, INTELLIGENT, Hairguard). Every recommendation is disclosed at the point it is made. Affiliate relationships do not change which products are covered – that is determined by the literature.
